About Me

Hi there! My name is Yoshiko. I have lived and worked in Australia for over 20 years, first as a Registered Nurse and now as Acupuncturist / Moxibustionist.

I find myself fortunate to be able to follow my two main passions in life – Western Medicine and Traditional Chinese/Japanese Medicine. I obviously do not have enough time in my life to be a master of all, but all I can do is … to enjoy and do my best in what I do.

These two different modalities of medicine are like having two languages. I speak Japanese and English, and I can see that each language is the reflection of two very different world views. Likewise, as a nurse in a Western hospital I would hear my patients in a manner that I automatically translated into Traditional Chinese Medicine language. I called it “simultaneous translation”.

I really appreciate how Chinese medicine expresses “Pathogenic Factors” into five factors: Wind, Heat, Cold, Damp and Summer Heat. They block channels, get stuck in the body if the body is weak, and accumulate in various parts of the body. They are usually invisible to our physical eyes and can be very annoying.

I find it exciting to witness the human body respond to these ancient methods, and its ability to remove those invisible pathological factors and restore its balance.

Moxibustion is one of these ancient practices which I am most excited about and have found to be very effective.

I still remember my first encounter with moxibustion – My old university friend kindly booked me in for acupuncture/moxibustion treatment in Tokyo when I went back for a two-week holiday. She said, “You are going to like him (the practitioner)!”. It turned out that the practitioner was Edward Obaidey!

I thoroughly loved his Acu/Moxa treatment and felt his energy flowing and healing me while I was lying on the massage table. I remember the pleasant smell of the moxa on my clothes after the one-hour treatment, and my body feeling lighter than it had ever felt before. I was hooked!

It was Edward who recommended I read Fukaya Isaburo if I am interested in learning moxa. When I came home from my trip to Japan, I found a Moxa course by Paul Movsessian and I learned Traditional Japanese Moxibustion Therapy from him, for which I am forever grateful. I am still learning, and I know I will forever be learning.
